      Euan Sinclair "Volatility Trading"
      Wiley | 2008-06-23 | ISBN: 0470181990 | 212 pages | PDF | 2,3 MB

In Volatility Trading, Sinclair offers you a quantitative model for measuring volatility in order to gain an edge in your everyday option trading endeavors. With an accessible, straightforward approach. He guides traders through the basics of option pricing, volatility measurement, hedging, money management, and trade evaluation. In addition, Sinclair explains the often-overlooked psychological aspects of trading, revealing both how behavioral psychology can create market conditions traders can take advantage of-and how it can lead them astray. Psychological biases, he asserts, are probably the drivers behind most sources of edge available to a volatility trader.

Your goal, Sinclair explains, must be clearly defined and easily expressed-if you cannot explain it in one sentence, you probably aren't completely clear about what it is. The same applies to your statistical edge. If you do not know exactly what your edge is, you shouldn't trade. He shows how, in addition to the numerical evaluation of a potential trade, you should be able to identify and evaluate the reason why implied volatility is priced where it is, that is, why an edge exists. This means it is also necessary to be on top of recent news stories, sector trends, and behavioral psychology. Finally, Sinclair underscores why trades need to be sized correctly, which means that each trade is evaluated according to its projected return and risk in the overall context of your goals.

Michael D. Sheimo "Bond Market Rules: 50 Investing Axioms To Master Bonds for Income or Trading"
        McGraw-Hill Trade | 1999-11-11 | ISBN: 0071348603 | 257 pages | PDF | 1,8 MB

In today's go-go market, investors' attitudes toward risk--as well as toward bonds--have undergone a dramatic transformation. The new rules of bond investing are complex, often confusing, and if misunderstood, potentially expensive. BOND MARKET RULES provides concise, easy-to-read explanations--from investing fundamentals to advanced trading strategies--to give you a comprehensive overview of bond investing. In addition, it is an ideal fingertip reference to today's most trusted rules, helping you know at a glance how a bond should act in any given situation--and just as important, how you should act to protect your investments. Individually, any one of the 50 chapters in BOND MARKET RULES could save you a fortune in portfolio blunders and miscues. Collectively, they provide nothing less than the most comprehensive manual available on knowing the bond market inside and out.

For example: Chapter 3 discusses the true meaning and importance of the yield curve, a popular yet often misunderstood bellwether of possible changes in the economy. Chapter 16 explains the "ladder" strategy--and how it can provide liquidity for long- term bond investors, while minimizing the effects of reinvestment risk. Chapter 27 describes the pluses and minuses of the popular zero coupon bonds, and why they are often preferred for retirement investment accounts. Chapter 49 discusses the promising but volatile new "Brady" bond--what it is, how it works, and why February and March are often the most profitable months to buy a Brady.

Simply put, bonds should be a part of any diversified portfolio. In addition, new attitudes and investment products have made the fixed-income market as exciting and potentially rewarding as the stock market. By presenting and explaining the usefulness of today's top 50 professional bond trading rules, BOND MARKET RULES will tell you everything you need to know about this vibrant, potentially lucrative market. On its own, or in combination with author Michael Sheimo's other nuts-and-bolts guidebooks, it will give you a comprehensive knowledge of the fixed-income investment world, and show you the safest, most profitable ways to include bonds in your diversified portfolio.

Michael Jardine, "New Frontiers in Fibonacci Trading: Charting Techniques, Strategies&Simple Applications"
          Marketplace Books | 2003-10-15 | ISBN: 1592800610 | 232 pages | PDF | 13,2 MB

Traders caught at the crossroads of traditional, proven, trading techniques - and new online tools and methods - have struggled to find a way of blending the two together into a unified trading system. Now, the marriage of the methods is complete, and brought into sharp focus in New Frontiers in Fibonacci Trading. This groundbreaking new work combines the foundations of Fibonacci trading with classic charting techniques, modern applications, and cutting edge online analysis tools.
Author Michael Jardine is a dedicate student of the markets, and active trader and founder of Enthios.com - a free web site offering an open exchange of trading ideas and a wealth of technical trading tools which he's made accessible to all investors. His years in the trading trenches - and the feedback he gets regularly from his Enthios.com trading community - has taught him the most practical ways to apply time-tested methods to an ever-changing market.
Michael has gone beyond his role as "student" of the markets - becoming a gifted teacher in the process. He has not only mastered traditional charting and timing techniques - he's developed new methods of his own by adopting Fibonacci fundamentals to the online trading arena in which today's trader must operate for maximum advantage. He's broken down his process into an understandable 5-part "system" which encompasses…
          - The Building Blocks of Price Action - market structures, retracement patterns and Fibonacci basics
          - Practical Fibonacci Applications - featuring original new applications explained in simple terms
          - "ChartWorks" - a comprehensive charting section featuring indicators, case-study trades, chart-reading tips - and more
          - Building Good Trading Habits - 3 key steps for making rational, unemotional decisions and maintaining a steady, clear-headed focus throughout the trading day - even when the market is giving off mixed messages
          - Enthios RealTime - Puts all the pieces together, and introduces new methods that form the core of his own propriety "Objective Method Trading System"

In layman's terms, providing the guidance of a thoughtful, patient teacher, Michael presents concepts you can easily implement. Including:
          - How to enter and exit a trade with limited risk
          - New and original Fibonacci methods that have evolved with the advent of online, real-time trading
          - Jardine's 3 Laws of Successful Trading
          - How to execute a trade when the signals are mixed or conflicting - rather than under "model" conditions
          - Developing a system that does not require you to predict how the market will perform - or worry about when the breakout will occur.

With detailed charts and graphics throughout, each chapter illustrates real trading situations, setups, and solutions. Michael has fused cherished trading concepts and Fibonacci basics with his own experiences in online, real-time trading. The result is a thorough new primer that shows you how to trade with greater success - on a consistent basis.

Karin Knorr Cetina, Alex Preda, "The Sociology of Financial Markets"
                  Oxford University Press, USA | 2006-06-07 | ISBN: 0199296928 | 336 pages | PDF | 1,3 MB

Financial markets have often been seen by economists as efficient mechanisms that fulfill vital functions within economies. But do financial markets really operate in such a straightforward manner? The Sociology of Financial Markets approaches financial markets from a sociological perspective. It seeks to provide an adequate sociological coneptualization of financial markets, and examine who the actors within them are, how they operate, within which networks, and how these networks are structured. Patterns of trading, trading room coordination, and global interaction are studied to help us better understand how markets work and the types of reasoning behind these trends. Financial markets also have a structural impact on the governance of social and economic institutions. Until now, sociologists have examined issues of governance mostly with respect to the legal framework of financial transactions. Contributions in this book highlight the ways in which financial markets shape the inner working and structure of corporations and their governance. Finally the book seeks to investigate the symbolic aspects of financial markets. Financial markets affect not only economic and social structures but also societal cultural images and frameworks of meaning. Barbara Czarniawska demonstrates how representations of gender relationships are a case in point. Arguing that financial markets are not simply neutral with respect to questions of gender but enhance certain images and interpretations of men and women. Addressing many important topics from a sociological perspective for the first time, this book will be key reading for academics, researchers, and advanced students of financial markets in Business, Management, Economics, Finance, and Sociology.

Curtis Faith, the most successful member of this elite group, breaks the silence to reveal the rules, timing, risks, rewards, and secrets to his biggest trades and 100 percent annual returns. Sharing behind-the-scenes insights and step-by-step techniques, Faith shows how you can use the Turtle Way to achieve enormous profits-whatever your skill level.

“The most successful turtle was apparently Curtis Faith. Trading records show that Mr. Faith, who was only 19 when he started the program, made about $31.5 million in profits for Mr. Dennis.”-Stanley W. Angrist, The Wall Street Journal

Leland E. Crabbe, Frank J. Fabozzi "Managing A Corporate Bond Portfolio (Frank J. Fabozzi Series)"
                          Wiley | 2002 | ISBN: 0471218278 | 336 pages | PDF | 3.5 mb

Praise for Managing A Corporate Bond Portfolio

"Crabbe and Fabozzi's Managing a Corporate Bond Portfolio is a refreshingly good book on the neglected topic in fixed income portfolio management. If you want to understand the latest thinking in corporate bonds, what drives prices and why, read this book. You will emerge with knowledge that will help you get an edge in the competitive investing arena."
—Tim Opler, Director, Financial Strategy Group, CSFB

"A practitioner's guide . . . a creative, comprehensive, and practical book that addresses the myriad of challenges facing managers of corporate bond portfolios. The chapter on liquidity, trading, and trading costs is a must read."
                          —Mary Rooney
Head of Credit Strategy, Merrill Lynch

"As a Senior Portfolio Manager responsible for managing billions of dollars invested in fixed income product during the mid-1990s, Lee Crabbe was the one Wall Street strategist that I would read every week to help me figure out where value was in the corporate bond market, and for insightful and easy-to-understand special reports that educated me and most investors on the risks and opportunities inherent in new structures and subordinated products. Fortunately for me and investors, Lee Crabbe and Frank Fabozzi have written this book, which compiles much of their previous work on corporate bond valuation, along with new features that are a must read, especially in light of the volatile times in the corporate bond market over the past few years. For portfolio managers, analysts, traders, and even strategists, if there is one book in your bookshelf that you should have on corporate bond portfolio management, it is this one."
—William H. Cunningham, Managing Director, Director of Credit Strategy, J.P. Morgan Securities Inc.

Barack Obama - The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream
                            Vintage | 2008 | ISBN:0307455874 | PDF | 464 pages | 2.59 MB

Barack Obama's first book, Dreams from My Father, was a compelling and moving memoir focusing on personal issues of race, identity, and community. With his second book The Audacity of Hope, Obama engages themes raised in his keynote speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, shares personal views on faith and values and offers a vision of the future that involves repairing a "political process that is broken" and restoring a government that has fallen out of touch with the people. We had the opportunity to ask Senator Obama a few questions about writing, reading, and politics--see his responses below.

Ilinois's Democratic senator illuminates the constraints of mainstream politics all too well in this sonorous manifesto. Obama (Dreams from My Father) castigates divisive partisanship (especially the Republican brand) and calls for a centrist politics based on broad American values. His own cautious liberalism is a model: he's skeptical of big government and of Republican tax cuts for the rich and Social Security privatization; he's prochoice, but respectful of prolifers; supportive of religion, but not of imposing it. The policy result is a tepid Clintonism, featuring tax credits for the poor, a host of small-bore programs to address everything from worker retraining to teen pregnancy, and a health-care program that resembles Clinton's Hillary-care proposals. On Iraq, he floats a phased but open-ended troop withdrawal. His triangulated positions can seem conflicted: he supports free trade, while deploring its effects on American workers (he opposed the Central American Free Trade Agreement), in the end hoping halfheartedly that more support for education, science and renewable energy will see the economy through the dilemmas of globalization. Obama writes insightfully, with vivid firsthand observations, about politics and the compromises forced on politicians by fund-raising, interest groups, the media and legislative horse-trading. Alas, his muddled, uninspiring proposals bear the stamp of those compromises.

                                Robbie Burns, "The Naked Trader"
                                Harriman House | 2005-09-30 | ISBN: 1897597452 | 276 pages | PDF | 1,6 MB

In this revealing new book, top trader Robbie Burns cuts through the jargon to give you the lowdown on the strategies you need to make money from share dealing.

Robbie, aka the Naked Trader, is an expert and highly entertaining guide to the sometimes baffling world of the stock market.

In between cups of tea, rounds of toast and the occasional ‘cuddle’ with Mrs Naked Trader, he describes the straightforward techniques that have enabled him to succeed in the markets and escape the rat race.

The book kicks off with the basics such as: the best websites, magazines and newspapers to look at; the kit you need to get cracking; and some key tips for choosing a broker. Robbie then gives you the essential techniques for picking the good shares and, just as importantly, avoiding the bad ones, and finishes up with some more advanced topics like how to make money even when shares fall. Along the way you also get the chance to spend a day with the Naked Trader with an exclusive extract from his private (and revealing) diary.

Throughout, everything is explained in plain (sometimes too plain! – Ed) English and with a sense of humour, honesty and enthusiasm rarely found in books about money.

Not afraid to bare his soul (among other things) the Naked Trader even reveals some of the painful mistakes that he has made in the markets to help make sure that you do not fall into the same traps.

There may not be any guaranteed short cuts to trading success (as an important Naked Trader rule states – ‘If it sounds too good to be true it probably is’), but this book gives you everything that you need to learn to trade successfully, and perhaps even escape the 9 to 5 slog like the Naked Trader has.

Packed with practical advice and delivered in a down-to-earth style, this book is all you need to get started. So grab your laptop and get trading – your naked future awaits!

Enjoy this great book! Brought to you by SMIRK
