Water heater replacement turned into a gas line surprise

Our water heater started leaking from the bottom last week so we knew it was time. I called a few places and got quotes all over the map, some just for the heater and others that included a bunch of extras I didn't understand. The guy we ended up going with was actually thorough and while he was inspecting the setup he noticed the gas line connection was corroded and not up to current code. So what I thought was a simple swap turned into water heater and gas line services in Palo Alto, which I didn't even know was a thing people specialized in. He explained everything without trying to scare me, showed me the corrosion, and gave me options instead of just a huge bill. It ended up taking an extra day but I'm glad he caught it because I'd rather not mess around with gas. Has anyone else had a water heater replacement uncover other issues? I'm wondering if I should get the whole house gas line inspected now just to be safe.
