My A6 transmission is fine but the gear selector feels loose - any ideas?

So this is one of those annoying little issues that isn't affecting how the car drives but is driving me crazy every time I get in the car. My 2016 A6 2.0 TDI has been absolutely solid mechanically, the transmission shifts smoothly and I've had no major issues at all. But I've noticed recently that the gear selector lever feels really loose and sloppy when I'm moving it between park, reverse, drive, and neutral. It used to feel precise and click into each position with a satisfying firmness, but now it feels like there's a lot of play and it almost wobbles slightly when it's in drive. I've checked under the boot and there's nothing obviously broken or loose, but something definitely doesn't feel right. I'm worried that if the selector mechanism gets worse, it could cause problems with the car not recognizing which gear it's in, or even getting stuck in park which would be a nightmare. I've been looking for a specialist to take a look at it and I came across a place that's described as a Certified Audi gearbox workshop in Musaffah Industrial Abu Dhabi, which seems like the right kind of place to diagnose something like this properly. Has anyone else experienced this kind of selector looseness on their A6 or similar model, and what was the cause and fix? I'm really hoping it's just a worn bushing or a cable adjustment rather than something that requires replacing the entire shifter assembly. I'd love to hear from anyone who's dealt with this before so I have some idea of what I might be looking at cost-wise before I take it in. It's one of those things that's not urgent but I want to catch it before it becomes a bigger problem.
